Lereko B-BBEE Policy

OUR B-BBEE POLICY

Lereko believes that Black Economic Empowerment is an essential ingredient in facilitating the meaningful participation of historically disadvantaged individuals and communities at all levels of the South African economy. In order to promote the development of communities and enterprises within which Lereko conducts business, Lereko is guided by the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act. Empowerment targets are set at various levels and are observed.

KEY PRINCIPLES

  • Empowerment is an ongoing process and not an event
  • Empowerment must result in meaningful and significant participation of historically disadvantaged individuals within Lereko, its partners, investee companies and in the broader economy.
  • Empowerment is the responsibility of the Lereko team, all management in Lereko businesses, its subsidiaries and investee companies.

APPROACH

Lereko’s policy is based on an integrated approach. It covers six main areas, mainly equity ownership and control; employment equity; skills development; preferential procurement; enterprise development and corporate social responsibility.

Our approach seeks to engage all our stakeholders in creating an enabling environment that contributes to the transformation of the economy and leads to the development of the country where business will thrive.

GOVERNANCE

Lereko actively monitors the implementation of B-BBEE policies within its partners, subsidiaries, and investee companies. In this regard, Lereko urges enterprises doing business with it, to have themselves rated by an accredited Rating Agency which does BBBEE ratings in accordance with the latest Codes of Good Practices (Generic Scorecard) as issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) or the latest Sectoral Charters.
